In 1992, the Commonwealth Government funded the establishment of local Divisions of General Practice. The Nepean Division of General Practice was founded in 1995 by local Doctors. These organisations were set up across Australia to provide a voice and an identity for local GPs. They provide support for GPs and allow GPs to band together on issues rather than work alone.
The Nepean Division of General Practice started with one staff member and a Board of local GPs. The organisation has grown and today provides support for approximately 180 GPs and 80 practices in the Penrith Local Government Area.
